Our Guide to Berlin

Four people in Berlin chose individual themes to create specific guides to Berlin, as part of a writing course with City Travel Review. Berlin is one of the most vibrant cities in Europe and has a little something for everyone. We have spent a month researching the city and visiting the coolest, most interesting and most historically important sites to make your stay easier and more valuable to your interests.

Adam from Sheffield gives a guide for Music Lovers - Music

Berlin is the undisputed European home of techno. Ravers from across the continent flock to the German capital to visit some of the world's most famous techno clubs. But don’t be deterred those of you who think techno sounds more like a dentist’s drill screeching over a never ending beat than actual music. Berlin’s expansive music scene caters for everyone from trilby wearing jazzsters to nose-pierced punks. I have undertaken the grueling task of visiting the greatest music venues, museums and events the city has to offer. (It is a hard job but someone has to do it.) This is by no means a comprehensive list, rather a compilation highlighting the depth and diversity of Berlin’s music scene. Classy jazz bars, underground techno clubs and sleazy rock venues - there is something for everyone.

Sian from Perth gives a guide for Hipsters

In a city where being a Hipster Deutschbag is the mainstream it can be overwhelming to find the right places to show off your freshly buzzed undercut. Well, fortunately for you and your collection of Thrifted Grandmother Cardigans I have spent a month going to places so cool that you've probably never heard of them. This is not an exhaustive list of the Only Hipster Approved Establishments, but merely a few trendy spots that I think are worth visiting if you have the time. Like any self respecting Hipster City, Berlin is changing at a rate that even the coolest local bearded and geometric-tattoo clad people can't keep up with all the options. As a foreigner with an asymmetrical haircut and a proclivity for reused buildings I have done my best to make your stay in Berlin as effortlessly cool as possible. You can thank me later.
